Are soft credits included in transaction calculations?

Updated Sep 11, 2026

No, soft credits are not initially included in transaction calculations on the Constituents grid. The Constituents grid shows summary contribution data in fields like YTD Received Amount, Five Year Received Amount, and Cumulative Received Amount. Collectively these fields are called Transaction Calculations. By default, these fields only include direct contributions. You have the option to include soft credits in these Transaction Calculations.

You may want to include soft credits in these columns so that constituents who give through Donor Advised Funds (DAF), spouses, or business owners would be identified along with others at the same giving level when producing reports. For example, a person who contributes $20,000 to your organization through their business would be shown as a major contributor if you filtered your grid for any constituents who have given over $10,000. The business would also be included in the report.

This information can only be updated by Admin level users.

Go to your organization's Account > Settings.

Go to the Options section.

Turn Include Soft Credits in Transaction Calculations to YES. The soft credits will be included in the Transaction Calculations beginning the next morning. These fields only update once per day, overnight.
