A split transaction allows you to attribute a single transaction to different causes or programs in your organization. For example, a constituent gives you a check for $5,000 and wants $4,000 to go towards your event sponsorship and the other $1,000 to got towards scholarships. There is no need to enter two separate transactions, the single gift can be entered and "split" into the appropriate For, Fund, Event, Appeal, Fundraising Goal Category, and Location. A transaction may be split as many times as necessary, as long at the total adds up to 100% of the transaction. Note that in this example, the sponsorship is a general transaction, not an event level purchase.

Switch the Split Transaction button to "Yes" and use the add gift icon, the small blue box just below the Split Transaction button, to add multiple splits. Enter the appropriate For, Fund, Event, Appeal, Fundraising Goal Category, Location, and other details for each amount.
